Bylaws update & review
All local PTA units are required to officially review and update their bylaws at least every five years. This is a H.U.G.S. requirement. Alaska PTA encourages local units to review and update their bylaws often. If the bylaws are not working for a local unit, many parts can be changed to suit the local unit and their membership.

why update?Local PTA unit bylaws need to be reviewed every five years to ensure that they are in line with National and Alaska PTA and to make sure that they work well for each unit.
The most common changes to local unit bylaws are:
Changes in bylaws that come directly from National or Alaska PTA do NOT need a general membership vote for approval. |
Revision or amendment?Revision
Bylaws that are only going through a few changes to specific items or updates to fit the new National or Alaska PTA standards. Amendment Local units that are opening up their bylaws document for a complete overhaul, changing many items, would be an amendment.
